Night in White

This past Friday night, I attended Night in White. It is an annual fundraiser here in Cincinnati by Cincy Chic at Krombholz Jewelers to benefit the Eight Days and One Hour Foundation's Stephen Morsch Nursing Scholarship. It is such fun to see everyone dressed in white to represent nurses for a great cause. The even includes models showing off great fashions and jewelry. There was lots of great silent auction items and even a Krombholz Jewelers Cincinnati Charm Bracelet Raffle!  A fun live band played outside under a tent throughout the evening. It was great fun for a great cause!

Grand Hotel Book Signing in Cincinnati!

This past Monday, Mr. Bob Tagatz, Historian of Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan came to visit us here in Cincinnati to sign the new book commemorating the Grand's 125th Anniversary! He started out the day at a lovely program at the Cincinnati Women's Club that I was unable to attend because of the start of spring term but was graciously invited to. Next, he moved on to Joseph Beth Booksellers in Hyde Park for the public signing which I was fortunate enough to attend. It was great fun to get to one on one speak with Mr. Tagatz about all that is Grand Hotel! Plus, I went with my mother which is always great to get to be together! While we did not purchase any of the books (ours are already on pre-order from last summer!), we were able to look through these books and enjoy the glorious photos of the Grand.

Grand Hotel has such a rich and lovely history that I have been so glad to witness since birth. To say that the Grand is magical is certainly an understatement. Built in 1887, it is a phenomenal structure and grounds. It has been so well maintained and preserved that it truly is fantastic. Mr. Carleton Varney of Dorothy Draper and Co. of New York City has been the designer of the hotel since the late 70s and certainly brought it to the next level. The hotel has been owned by the same family since W. Stewart Woodfill purchased the hotel in 1933. One of my very favorite aspects of the hotel is that all 385 guest rooms are completely different - no two are alike! This is something that truly sets it apart as a Grand Hotel. And that does not even begin to talk about the lake views. The Straits of Mackinac, or the cross of Lakes Michigan and Huron are some of the most breathtaking views. Additionally, cars are not permitted on the island, so it is a journey to the past with only horses and bikes.  I could simply go on and on forever. To truly understand and get all that is Grand Hotel, one must be a guest!
